Supporting Enterprise: Jodie Cook

Jodie Cook: Supporting Enterprise

Jodie Cook always knew she wanted to work for herself and do work that she loved to do. She was fresh out of University when she started her Social Media Agency, JC Social Media, in 2011 at the age of 22. Jodie’s company has grown from a staff of 1 to 18. She has won numerous awards and accolades and her TEDx talk, Creating Useful People, is a statement on the importance of supporting enterprising skills and having role models.

Jodie’s current focus is her book series for kids. Clever Tykes story books inspire positive, resourceful and creative behaviour. Each story features a unique character and theme. Clever Tykes books are now read in every primary school in the United Kingdom! Jodie plans to replicate this in countries across the world.

If you are a person that believes in the importance of self directed learning, this episode is a good one. Jodie speaks not as a teacher, nor as a parent. She is a young employer in today’s knowledge economy. She is a business owner that knows the benefits of a commitment to learning and improving.

In this episode we talked about:

  • Why a commitment to learning is a huge factor when she is recruiting staff. Wonder what qualities an employer is looking for? Listen to what Jodie has to say.
  • The need Jodie saw when she created Clever Tykes story books (and listen to her amazing goal for the book series, and the help she needs to achieve this goal)
  • The Power of Role Models
  • Why Enterprise is a needed skill for young people today
  • What Parents Can do to Support Enterprise
  • How her own mom encouraged independence
  • Euthymia~Why this one Greek word underpins so much of what she does in life
